Key Legislation and Policy Dates

  • December 2006 – The Pharmaceutical Act (Bill 41) was passed, allowing pharmacists to prescribe and administer drugs, order tests, and interpret patient-administered automated tests. http://web2.gov.mb.ca/laws/statutes/2006/c03706e.php
  • December 3, 2007 – Draft regulations sought authority for continued care prescriptions, prescribing of Schedule II, III and Unscheduled products that could receive third party coverage, medical devices, and prescribing of Schedule I medications in declared emergencies. http://www.napra.org/Content_Files/Files/Manitoba/RegsDRAFTDecember3-07.pdf
  • March 7, 2008 – As required in Manitoba, pharmacists voted on approving regulations before passing them into government. Pharmacists voted against the December 2007 draft regulations.
  • October 8, 2010 – Draft regulations were revised.
  • November 9, 2010 – Pharmacists voted in favour of approving the draft regulations. These will now be sent to the Minister of Health for completion.
  • November 17, 2010 – The approved document with draft regulations was sent to the Minister of Health.

  • February 2011- now – The Manitoba Pharmaceutical Association has been involved in meetings with Manitoba Health.
