The following was presented by a panel of Blueprint for Pharmacy Steering Committee members at the CPhA Conference in Montreal in May 2011.
How the Blueprint for Pharmacy is Evolving Pharmacy Practice
Members of the Blueprint for Pharmacy Steering Committee provided the following updates:
- Why the Blueprint for Pharmacy is important
- An update on overall progress from the National Coordinating Office
- Legislative and policy developments in Canada
- The Canadian Pharmacy Services Framework (CPSF)
- Continuing Professional Development/Continuing Education Summits
The session was participatory. Attendees were asked to complete worksheets indicating how each of these updates will affect frontline pharmacists’ ability to utilize an expanded scope of practice. The worksheets were collected, and used to produced a Blueprint for Pharmacy Report from the CPhA Conference, (now available).
Learning Objectives
The presentation had the theme "Professional Practice Begins with Individual Practice."
The objectives of the presentation were:
- To inform the audience of local developments in pharmacy practice while providing a national context for these events
- To have the audience think critically about how developments in pharmacy practice across Canada can be implemented in individual practice
- To demonstrate the progress achieved by the Blueprint for Pharmacy while emphasizing the steps the individual can take to utilize an expanded scope of practice
